1. What is the purpose of SAND?
The purpose of SAND is to foster the professional and educational goals and interest in the fields of nutrition, food service management, and dietetics. 2. Who can become a member of SAND? Any student who is enrolled at Miami University and has an interest in food and nutrition can join SAND! 3. How do I become a member of SAND? Attend any of our monthly meetings or contact Professor Nancy Parkinson ([email protected]) or any SAND officer for further information. 4. What is the benefit of being apart of SAND? There are numerous benefits for those who are a part of SAND. Members will be able to gain experience in the food science and dietetics fields, volunteer as a nutrition educator, learn more about food and nutrition, and meet others who share the same passion for nutrition. 5. What are the dues? Dues are $20 per academic year or $10 per semester. 6. What are events SAND is apart of? SAND events which take place on campus and in the Oxford, Ohio community include:
To be an active member you must be on a committee and have 6 points (attend 6 events/meeting). In order to run for SAND Exec you must be on a committee and have 10 points (attend 10 events/meetings). 8. When are the meetings? What are the meetings like? Meetings are held once a month for an hour in the evening. Meetings consist of, but are not limited to: speaker presentations (i.e. KIND Bar representative, registered dietitians), discussion of future SAND events (i.e. academic assistance, volunteer opportunities, club socials) and free food. 9. How can I become an officer? Elections are held every December and positions are held for one academic year. Further information is provided a month before elections. Those wishing to run for a position must have heavily participated in SAND events. 10. Where can I learn more about Miami University's Department of Kinesiology and Health?
