The Apple Butter Festival is an annual fall event hosted by the Oxford Museum Association. Proceeds benefit their goal of historic preservation. Volunteers get the chance to learn the entire apple butter making process by becoming involved. Tasks include stoking the fires under the kettles, stirring the apple butter in the large kettles, and canning the final product. If you're not interested in volunteering, you can also come and enjoy the festival! There are different events, vendors, and even live music. Check out their website for more information.
The Hueston Woods Apple Butter Festival provides a vignette of 19th century farm life and features continual creation of apple butter in the pioneer fashion throughout the event. A great family activity conveniently located for Butler & Preble County residents. In addition to apple butter sales, a wide variety of apples, cider, pumpkins and gourds can be purchased on the grounds. Tours are conducted through the Doty homestead and the barn, both of mid 1980's vintage and exhibiting a broad display of museum artifacts. Each year demonstrations of pioneer crafts are featured along with a theme program.
